Electronics Parts and Components (DFW)

Tanner Electronics
1100 Valwood Parkway, Suite #100
Carrollton, TX 75006
www.tannerelectronics.com

Since I moved here last year, I have heard alot about this place in the local ham radio club. I finally visited a couple of weeks ago, and I have been back twice since! This place is well stocked with components, kits, and tools with a wide selection of CMOS and TTL ICs, resistors of every value and wattage, LEDs, and other passive and semiconductor components. And the prices are great, especially since you don't have to pay Digi-Key or Jameco shipping!

My only complaint is that they don't carry a wide selection of electronics books and magazines -- they have a few issues of Circuit Cellar and Nuts And Volts, but that's about it. I could spend hours walking the aisles here.

Barber Shop (Grand Rapids)

Di Trapani's Barber Shop
1001 Fulton St E
Grand Rapids, MI 49503

While I lived in Grand Rapids, I always got my hair cut by Fred at Di Tripani's barber shop. Over the years the price has gone up considerably (I'm joking, in 1998 it was $6.50, I think it's 8 bucks now). It's the best haircut in Grand Rapids.

President Gerald Ford used to get his haircuts there, mostly before he was president but a few times when he was a sitting president, so I am told. Imagine giving a President a shave, holding a razor blade to his throat. Must have been some really nervous Secret Service agents in there... I hope the barbers were Republicans.

I really miss this place and I time my visits back to Grand Rapids to coincide to times when I need a haircut.

Barber Shop (DFW)

Main Street Barber Shop
120 S Main St # 30
Grapevine, TX 76051

About six weeks after I moved to Texas, I found that my hair was too long. Having long been a fan of real old-fashioned barber shops, I spotted this place in Grapevine. Larry has been cutting my hair ever since, although it appears that the other barbers in the shop do a find job as well. Haircuts are $16 (not as cheap as the $8 haircuts I used to get from Fred at DiTripani's in Grand Rapids, but hey...).

Bank (DFW)

Bank of Texas
(all over DFW and Houston)
www.bankoftexas.com

Everybody needs a bank, and I tend to stay away from the big ones because they keep changing their names, buying each other out, or *gasp* failing!

I like the Bank of Texas. No fees, no frills, just real checking with no strings. No monthly fee, no minimum balance, no ATM fees (they even refund the fees from other banks' ATMs -- just save your receipts), free online banking and bill pay. I have been more than satisfied with them.
